| Learning Greek with my own BLOG: Hi all,
I'm very new to learning Greek (literally starting from scratch). I'm 30 years old living in Brighton in the UK but in the near future look to relocate to Cyprus. In fact I've started a blog of my journey (www.andylearnsgreek.blogspot.com) which I want as many people to provide feedback on via comments since I'm finding the challenge very solitary (also the best way to correct me on incorrect spelling and pronounciations). PLEASE come and visit!
Thanks all and καληνύχτα- AndyKypros | |

| Turkish - Elementary 101: Ders 1 - Lesson 1
Hello peeps! I decided to copy my Greek lessons, translating them to Turkish, of course making some changes here and there, as the grammars of the two languages are super different.
I have newly started making these lessons, but I don't know how much of help they will be, so before I carry on with this tiresome work, I'd like to get some feedback from you guys and see if these are indeed helpful. So drop a few lines and tell me what you think please!
I have tried to explain stuff as simple as I could, if you still have questions however, you can ask them anytime, but please do so in the "questions" thread in Turkish Forum.

Romanian culture:
I think it's useful to know about the culture and about the country where they speak the language you are learning. So I think we could add a post for Romanian culture.
Many people (almost in Spain) think Romanians are just stealers and gipsies... but gipsies are just 6% of the Romanian population! So I think people just learn about you before to judge :)
I have a Romanian friend who is whiter than the milk, and they think she is Russian. When she says: I'm Romanian, people say: But you are not gipsy! It's incredible! :p
I have some questions about Romanian culture, and I'll post them later. :)

| Aντωνυμίες & πτώ` - Pronouns and cases (reloaded): I found this and I think is useful . Thanks to Nena.
This is a topic about the way the cases are used in the Greek language. Feel free to ask Nena77 any question you like .
Ok, we are all familiar with the personal pronouns in the nominative form. They are the ones we use in the verb conjugation game:
Εγώ
Εσύ
Αυτός/Αυτή/Αυτό (Masc/Fem/Neut)
Εμείς
Εσείς
Αυτοί/Αυτές/Αυτά (Masc/Fem/Neut)
We use these to show the person that does something
Εγώ τρέχω run
Εσύ κάθεσαι sit
Αυτός/Αυτή/Αυτό κλαίει cry
Εμείς ταξιδεύουμε travel
Εσείς φεύγετε leave
Αυτοί/Αυτές/Αυτά περπατούν- Gabrielle | |
| Lesson no 8 - two important verbs (reloaded): I think the previous lesson scared many people because i saw not much of replies :)
Anyway, the verbs 'είμαι' (to be ) and 'έχω' (to have ), which are most important in English and many languages, are widely used in Greek to form tenses (mainly perfect tenses). Following is the complete list of verb forms for these two auxiliary verbs.
.......................ACTIVE VOICE
............Indicative .....................Subjunctive
Person..Present..Imperfect..Dur. Future....Present
1st si. είμαι.....ήμουν.......θα είμαι.....να είμαι
2nd si. είσαι.....ήσουν.......θα είσαι.....να είσαι
3rd si. είναι.....ήταν........θα είναι.....να είν- Gabrielle | |
| Lesson no 7 - The verb (reloaded): This is going to be a little more difficult.
In the verbal system of Modern Greek, both the tense and the aspect are very important. The concept of the aspect is expressed by two different stems, the stem of the present and the stem of the aorist (simple past tense). From these two stems are formed all the tenses and the moods.
There are eight tenses in Modern Greek
Present
---Present Tense (Enestotas - Ενεστώτας )
---Perfect or Present Perfect(Parakimenos - Παρακείμενος )
Past
---Aorist or Simple Past Tense (Aoristos - Αόριστος )
---Imperfect or Past Continuous (Paratatikos -Παρατατικός )
---Pluperfect or Past Perfect(Ipersintelikos - Υπερσυντέλ- Gabrielle | |
| Lesson no 5 - The article (reloaded): There are two kinds of articles in Greek : the definite and the indefinite (just like in most European languages).
The article is inflected for number, gender and case. In Modern Greek there are two numbers
Ενικός - enikos - singular
ΠΛηθυντικός - plithindikos - plural
three genders
Αρσενικό - arseniko - male
Θηλυκό - thiliko - female
Ουδέτερο - udhetero - neutral
and four cases
Ονομαστική - onomastiki - nominative
Γενική - gheniki - genitive
Αιτιατική - etiatiki - accusative
Κλητική - klitiki - vocative
The article agrees in number, gender and case with the noun it refers to, which it precedes. Vocative takes no art- Gabrielle | |
